P-58 and P-62 FPSOs

Development of the control and safety system for the P-58 and P-62 platforms.

Altus' engineering team was selected by Petrobras to design the system responsible for controlling the exploration and production processes of its FPSO platforms—Floating Production Storage and Offloading units, the company’s first of this type.

These projects represented a significant technological milestone for Petrobras, demanding highly reliable and integrated automation solutions. Altus was responsible for delivering a robust, secure system capable of managing critical oil extraction, processing, and storage operations in real time, decisively contributing to the success of these deepwater production units.

Project Overview

In 2011, Altus was contracted to develop the Control and Safety System (CSS) for the P-58 and P-62 platforms. This automation solution manages five subsystems across both platforms, each with CPU redundancy:

– Production and utilities monitoring
– Emergency shutdown of the production system
– Fire and gas detection
– Utility monitoring for systems installed on the vessel’s deck
– Emergency shutdown of the hull (Hull Shutdown)

Altus’s delivery ensured the implementation of a robust, reliable system in compliance with the highest international safety standards, directly contributing to operational efficiency, the safety of operations, and production continuity on the P-58 and P-62 platforms.

Increased process performance thanks to the high level of control and supervision provided by Altus solutions. With advanced technology and efficient system integration, it was possible to achieve greater operational precision, fewer failures, and significant gains in productivity and efficiency.

Integração

Seamless Integration

Intelligent convergence of control systems, with full integration into corporate systems, enabling real-time information exchange, more strategic decision-making, and unified operations management.

User friendly

User friendly

Intuitive visual interface designed to streamline system navigation and operation. With real-time graphical reports, process monitoring becomes more dynamic and efficient, enabling rapid and accurate decision-making.

Alta disponibilidade

High Availability

Solutions engineered for mission-critical applications that cannot afford downtime. With hot-swappable redundancy support, the systems guarantee operational continuity even in failure scenarios, allowing maintenance and component replacement without interrupting the process.

Alta disponibilidade com redundância hot standby

High availability with hot-standby redundancy.

To ensure uninterrupted plant operation, the unit is designed with a high degree of redundancy, where every critical component has a backup that can take over in case of failure. This level of redundancy is also required in the automation system, which provides high availability through redundant Nexto programmable controllers, field networks, power supplies, control networks, servers, and operation stations.

Conheça a FPSO P-58

FPSO P-58 Overview

Located in the Baleia Azul Field, off the coast of Espírito Santo, the P-58 platform is an FPSO unit with a length of 330 meters and a width of 57 meters. It has the capacity to store 1.6 million barrels of oil, which is periodically offloaded to tankers. Through a 165 km pipeline, the platform continuously exports natural gas to the Cacimbas Gas Treatment Unit in Linhares, Espírito Santo.

The P-58 is connected to 24 oil and gas production wells, 13 from post-salt and 11 from pre-salt reservoirs. It has a daily production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil and 6 million cubic meters of natural gas. The unit is also equipped to treat and inject up to 350,000 barrels of water per day through 12 water injection wells.

Conheça a FPSO P-62

FPSO P-62 Overview

With similar specifications, the P-62 platform is also an FPSO unit located in Module IV of the Roncador Field, in the post-salt region of the Campos Basin, Rio de Janeiro.

The P-62 is connected to 22 wells (14 oil and gas production wells and 8 water injection wells). It has a daily production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil and 6 million cubic meters of natural gas. The platform’s storage capacity is 1.6 million barrels of oil, and it can treat and inject 250,000 barrels of water per day.

Redundância de CPU para sistemas que não podem parar

Redundant CPU architectures for critical systems

The Nexto family of programmable controllers includes a high-performance model that supports hot standby redundancy, ensuring the highest levels of system availability. You can configure a redundant setup with two NX3030 CPUs—one primary (active) CPU running the system, and a standby CPU constantly monitoring its performance.

The standby CPU continuously monitors the primary unit’s performance to ensure smooth operation. In case of a failure where the primary CPU becomes unavailable, the standby CPU automatically takes over, ensuring uninterrupted operation without the need for manual intervention or risking any system downtime. This seamless transition, known as “switch-over,” keeps the process running smoothly.
